(Gaelic: Ceann-a-Ghuibhsaich: The head of
pinewood) is the traditional capital of Badenoch,
the area of the upper Spey Valley in the heart of
the Scottish Highlands. It nestles beside the
River Spey at the foothills of the Cairngorms and
Monadhliath Mountains |

To
the south of Kingussie lies the ruin Ruthven
Barracks which was last occupied by the Jacobites
en route to Culloden. The barracks are situated
on the site of the historic Ruthven Castle, home
of the legendary 14th Century son of King Robert
the 2nd, Alexander Stewart, the Wolf of Badenoch.

Kingussie
is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts and all
those who appreciate fresh clean air, dramatic
ever changing scenery and Highland hospitality.
For those seeking invigoratiing activities
there's hill walking, mountain biking, fishing,
tennis, golfing, pony trekking, bird watching,
skiing and many water sports. |
There is a renowned 18 hole golf course in a
mountain setting and a further five golf courses
within easy reach in the Spey Valley.Kingussie,
a market town with traditional Victorian
buildings, is home to the Highland Folk Museum
and is close to the RSPB reserve at Insh Marshes
and the Highland Wildlife Park at Kincraig.
The town has a fine selection of cafes,
restaurants and hotels and a variety of
interesting shops where you can buy various
gifts, pictures and mementos to remind you of
your visit to Kingussie.
The successful television series "Monarch
of the Glen" has been filmed entirely in the
